Cake, Jesus and a barrel of laughs

18 Feb

I’ve just come back from the last committee meeting for CU before handing over to the new guys. The year has flown by, and I can’t believe that just as I’ve started to feel settled into the role, it’s time to move on! It’s been an amazing 12 months. Here’s a few things I’m so grateful for in no particular order:

1. God’s faithfulness and provision in all situations, even when we haven’t been trusting him as we should.

2. Nine fantastic brothers and sisters in Christ, who share a desire to see lost souls won for the Kingdom and who love each other deeply.

3. Several barrels of laughs and giggles along the way.

4. A publicity team who have had some much better ideas than me.

5. A great bunch in CU who’ve been willing to get stuck into anything and everything to make Christ known.

6. Birthday cakes, welsh cakes, sponge cakes, cheesecakes, pancakes…

7. Unity in the gospel despite our vastly differing opinions on lots of things.

8. Tenby.

9. A Students’ Union who have no idea how much they have helped the spread of the gospel this year.

10. Realising that I’m nowhere near as good as I thought at lots of things, but that God is gracious enough and good enough to use me anyway.

11. That Geraint’s suggestion that we don’t really need to bother with the Old Testament any more was probably only in jest.

12. The hours of fun devoted to Dave’s fellowship rota.

13. John Piper at Forum 08.

14. That early morning prayer meetings didn’t happen every day of the year.

15. Maurice McCracken at the New Leaders Weekend.

16. The certain hope of a committee reunion in Heaven.

17. UCCF’s free gospel project.

18. Somewhere to meet every week, even if it wasn’t ideal by our standards.

19. That even though we’ve finished committee, we can still be friends 🙂

20. A Saviour who saves sinners like me, you and all who will turn to Him and receive the free gift of eternal life.

Freedom for Cardiff

5 Feb

We’re mid-way through Cardiff Uni Mission Week, running with the theme of “Freedom” alongside the UCCF free gospel project. God is working in Cardiff! Have we seen conversion yet? I don’t know, but I do know that the Spirit has been prompting people to engage seriously with the claims of Christ and trust that God will continue the good work he has begun.

Whether through street worship, drama, questionnaires, flyering or by good old personal friendship evangelism, Christ is being proclaimed. And that is a good thing!

It has been such an encouragement to see the whole CU body join together, united in spirit and purpose, and to see those who I least expected getting stuck into the most amazing conversations with those passing them in the streets. What a rebuke to me and my little confidence in God’s ability to use anyone he chooses to carry out his work.

Last night Dai Hankey from Hill City Church spoke at the main meeting on all that God has freed us from, and freed us to. From sin, to righteousness. Pray that we would see salvation!
